Crazy summer. This is what I did.
1. Impregnated my wife. Amazingly on the first try. I have superhuman sperm.
2. Vacationed! What's that you say? Who has time for that? I got to sneak away to Chicago
and San Francisco
. Got to play tourist in my home town which is a unique way to do things. I had never been to SF before. Cool town. Wouldn't want to live there but it's got some charm which was refreshing.
3. Fear Itself. I can't even link to it. NBC's taken it off their website. Oh, well. I can't vouch for it's viewing quality, but working on it was awesome. I got to work with a lot of different directors and none of them were dicks! There was some crazy, but no meanness. Good crew. Good room. New challenges every week. Good times.
4. The Stoning of Soraya M
. Probably the best movie I've worked on. Certainly some of my best sound work. Really good experience. The director put a lot of trust in us and let us have a lot of creative freedom. And I think we turned out a pretty good movie. It took 3rd in the audience voting at the Toronto Film festival. It's a tough movie to watch content wise but I hope it gets a good theatrical release. It'll be nice to have a movie play in more than 1 theater nationwide. It's also reassuring that every movie I work on sounds better than the previous movie. Things to look forward to.
Now that it's fall, I started Knight Rider. I had always said that Fear Itself was the hardest show I could imagine working on becuase it's very busy sonically, and the sound plays such an important role in horror movies. Then I started mixing Knight Rider. It's Fear x 100. I've never been so exhausted after a non-overtime mix. But it's a fun show to work on. Good people in the room, too. My partner
has mixed at least 15 of my favorite movies. Things are looking up.
